Don't know how to choose the abrasive wheel? DELUN takes you to learn the scope of application of different abrasive wheels.

Oct 09, 2021

Today, DELUN teaches everyone how to choose the right abrasive wheel from three aspects.

1. Abrasives----The choice of abrasives mainly depends on the material of the workpiece and the heat treatment method.

(1) When grinding materials with high tensile strength, choose abrasives with high toughness.

(2) When grinding materials with low hardness and high elongation, brittle abrasives should be used.

(3) When grinding high-hardness materials, choose abrasives with higher hardness.

The most commonly used abrasives are brown corundum and white corundum, followed by black silicon carbide, green silicon carbide and zirconium corundum.

2. Grit----The choice of grit mainly depends on the surface roughness and grinding efficiency of the work piece to be ground.

The girt refers to the grit of the abrasive, and its size is expressed by the number of grit. When grinding with a coarse grinding wheel, the production efficiency is high, but the surface of the work piece is rough. When grinding with a fine-grained grinding wheel, the surface roughness of the work piece is better, but the productivity is lower. Under the premise of meeting the roughness requirements, coarse-grained grinding wheels should be used as much as possible to ensure higher grinding efficiency. Under normal circumstances, coarse grinding wheels are used for rough grinding, and fine grinding wheels are used for fine grinding.

When the contact area between the grinding wheel and the work piece is large, a grinding wheel with a coarser grain size should be selected. For example, when grinding the same plane, the grinding of the end face of the grinding wheel is rougher than the grinding of the periphery of the grinding wheel.

3.Hardness----The choice of hardness mainly depends on the material, grinding efficiency and surface quality of the work piece to be ground.

Hardness refers to the difficulty of the abrasive particles falling off under the action of external force. In order to meet the grinding requirements of different work piece materials, the grinding wheels are processed into different hardness levels.
